CINDERELLA for GROWN UPS!!! But unlike most (not all of course)in this tale, the heroine does not come accross as a pathetic little creature. Quite the contrary in this story she is beautiful, witty and very vibrant, capable of holding her own under most circumstances. I also loved that there is a lot from the point of view of the hero.

This tale is sweetly romantic, and wonderfully improbable. But is this not what romance reading is all about?

The story is great and I was over the moon that, the obstacles that inevitably come up in a story (to keep the hero and heroine in conflict until the happily ever after ending) had nothing to do with the hero refusing to fall in love and/or not wanting to commit to the heroine. Fantastic!!!! I don't care what ploy is used to propel the story along, except for the one I just mentioned, and which unfortunately (for me) a lot of romantic writers like to use. I totally enjoyed this book!

The Trouble with Being a Duke Kingsborough Ball Sophie Barnes 9780062245076 Books Reviews

A good read with the elements of humor, mischief, sadness, jealousy and passion. I would have liked to see an epilogue.
I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it to others to read. I look forward to reading more of her books and sharing them with my friends.
This book had a great story with a lot of laughter, some misunderstanding and I love the way they dress and the things that they consider natural. You will have to read the book to find out the surprise ending.
A Great Story... This was my first novel by Sophie Barnes. I never read any of the previous reviews before purchasing this book (I am looking for more authors in historical romance). In short... I disagree with many of the previous reviewers. The story was enchanting... the characters were real to life... and the plot keep taking various twists and turns. Finally, a new author on the block that has a great imagination and by doing this she ends up telling us more than one good love story...
This book started out well but it kind of lost me halfway through. The heroine annoyed me a lot, and her parents annoyed me as well. So many lies! I don't like deceit.
It also annoyed me that she insisted on marrying a guy she couldn't stand yet kept meeting and kissing the Duke AND blamed him for HER actions!
The storyline was ok but I struggled to finish it. I don't think this is one of her best books.
If you are looking for a wonderful tale of another era, a Cinderella story to make you once again believe in fairy tales then this is your book. Ms. Barnes quickly takes an old classic and creates her characters around it. From the moment you start till the last page you will be swept into a heart warming tale of love, dreams and what if's. Every little girl dreams of her prince and too often reality is a harsh reminder that some dreams don't come true. Sometimes we need to escape to that world of wonder, to be that little girl again, to wish and hope for just a moment. This book delivers that. A wonderful tale, great characters, little twists and turns and delightful surprises. In the end you will have the happy ever after if only for the moment within the pages.
There are plenty of other summaries so I'll just give my opinion. Basically I wanted to hit the h over the head a number of times for the stupidity of her wanting to continue with her relationship with Mr Roberts instead of the Duke. I felt it to be incredibly unrealistic given the times. However the h's mother is just as annoying and so perhaps this was hereditary and deliberate on the part of the author?? While I was reading the book I felt frustrated with the characters for the middle 50% of the book and I personally don't think it's a good idea on the part of the author to keep up the 'annoyance' factor for so long. The Duke (the H) was fab and dreamy and honourable and the only reason this book even gets 3 stars. I will probably read the next book in the series though, as the characters were introduced in this book and we were left hanging regarding the shooting of the next book's h.
