Show No Mercy has a well crafted plot and a very unexpected, emotion-wrenching twist that I won't give away. It's well worth reading to find out. Gabe is a hard, detached, emotionally drained man who at the novel's commencement appears to really have nothing to live for. He's going through the motions of a very dangerous job as a Black Ops operative. His missions are dangerous and he can die at anytime, which is what he appears to want as we see into his thoughts.

Jenna on the other hand is loving, warm, and caring within, so it's a bit surprising that she's so attracted to this very dark and brooding man. But in affairs of the heart, things are always complicated. When she returns to Argentina and is saved by Gabe from being blown away by a bomb, the attraction between them that had ignited months before flares to a rich burn as Jenna ventures to take a chance on this man who seems determined to resist her. Resistance becomes one war that Gabe isn't going to win when he becomes her protector from a sadist whose sole goal is to destroy her. Thrown together now by circumstances, he yields to her allure and Jenna loses her heart, but he won't give his. Taking what she can get, she still fights to understand how he can deny this good thing between them. And when her question is answered, she wishes she'd never asked. Knowing now why earning his love is an illusion, Jenna can't take hers back and still hopes he'll come to love her.

In the depths of his heart, Gabe does love her, but he's afraid that he might lose his heart and soul once again if he fails to protect the woman he loves.

I had reviewed these books over 9 months ago and for some reason didn't invest in them. I love black ops type books with romance in them so I tried this one yesterday. Absolutely loved it!! This author is very good at character development and even better with developing her plots. One of the reviewers said it was very predictable but I disagree. Love the characters in this book and understand the burdens you carry when you live in the environment they lived in. I was in Law Enforcement, Fire Fighting and EMS all my adult life and over that time I have carried the burdens that only a strong person can carry to work these and military type careers. I believe you have to love God, Country and the people you serve to take the stress you encounter in doing the best job that you can do. Thank God there are people who are willing to give so much to protect the citizens of our nation. I enjoyed the way Ms. Gerard wrote the book and the way she showed that people in these careers give so much of themselves willingly to keep us safe in our homes. There was alot of action, action, action and love won out in the end. Its 4am and I just finished this book and am starting the next one in the series before I go to sleep.
I love that Cindy Gerard created this new series with two characters I met in her 'Bodyguards' series as the main couple in this first book.

I was *dying* to see more of Gabe Jones and Jenna McMillan. I absolutely loved them when I met them before and couldn't wait to see them reuniting. And if you, like me, met them in the previous series, you won't be disappointed. But if you're new, don't worry, you won't be disappointed either. Gabe and Jenna were a pleasure to read.

I loved their dialogues and banters. Gabe's the guy who'll tell you things straight and Jenna the woman that will have a sassy response to whatever he says. They made me laugh and fall in love with them even harder.

They begin as 'kind-of-enemies' but with each moment they spend together, they start trusting each other more and more. I especially loved how Gabe would open up to Jenna about his painful past/present. It made me love him even more so. It made me understand him. He's the kind of hero that wants to save everyone but thinks that he's not worthy of love because of the baggage he carries. Wrong! He's so so worthy of love and of a woman like Jenna.

It was a delight to read these two falling in love. Everything happened at a perfect pace and I loved how well the romance balanced with the suspense plot. I never felt one overshadowed the other. Didn't feel that one should've had more than the other because both plots were well executed.

I especially liked how the suspense plot was connected to the last 'Bodyguards' series. I love when authors write characters that share the same universe and Cindy Gerard did a great job with it.

My only complaints are I would've loved to see more of the friendship between the guys and the ending for Gabe wasn't wrapped up in a 100% HEA. I mean, they do get their happy ending but Gabe goes through some losses that HURT ME because I fear we won't see much of him in future books and I need to see more of him and Jenna.

OVERALL

The first book in the 'Black Ops' series is a great beginning. I loved the main couple, the supporting characters and am looking forward to reading the rest of the books.

It's not necessary to read Cindy Gerard's 'Bodyguards' series but for me it made this book better.

If you're looking for a romance with alpha-tortured heroes, heroines that arrive to make their lives better by simply loving them, and a thrilling suspense plot, this is the book for you.
