This is one of my favorite Highlander series I have read. The research and historical accuracy that McCarty works into the narrative is impressive and engaging. The characters are compelling and I love how with such a large group of characters, not one of them is the same nor are they "cookie-cutter" in character. The series is a must read!Tags : The Hunter (Highland Guard, Book 7) [Monica McCarty] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY RT BOOK REVIEWS The war for Scotland’s freedom continues as King Robert the Bruce battles on. The Hunter Highland Guard Book 7 Monica McCarty 9780345543912 Books Reviews
I am fascinated with the history of Scotland, especially the XIII and XIV centuries in their struggles for independence from England.
I had already read the Hunter and the Striker when I learned of the other Highland Guard novels.
I then ordered the Chief and the Hawk, enjoyed them very much, and will continue with series.
My compliments to Ms. Monica McCarthy for her thorough documentation and impeccable writing skills.
She did justice to that great era.
Like her, I wish there had been a secret Highland Guard with King Robert the Bruce.
The reason for the rating is because it's another great book to read from the Highland Guard Novels. I like this book, because it has just as much of a reason to understand what really matters and to remember what to fight for.
Fun, fairly fast paced, but it lacked in historical content. I enjoyed the intelligence of the female heroine and loved the idea of a tracker being the hero. Just once though, I'd love to see the hero have to wait till the very end to fully consummate the relationship.
The Hunter is the story of Hunter and Janet, a part of the Highland Guard series. Being a huge fan of the Highland Guard, Monica continues to weave an excellent story which mixes romance with the danger of being a part of the Guard, as well as putting some realism of history into her story.
The characters are real, as are the dilemmas they face in the story. She is an exceptional writer, making them believable. Her books move your soul, pulling you into a time past, giving you a glimpse into the time of Robert the Bruce.
I own every book she's written and have read them many times. I would highly recommend her books. My only complaint is that I can't give her more than five stars...
I really enjoyed this book. I felt that both characters, Ewen and Janet were both relatable characters, and probably the most relatable out of all the the characters we see throughout the series. or maybe they were both pieces of me that made me find them enjoyable? i don't know but, the blunt and harsh way Ewen talked and him so desperately trying not to be like his father and the way Janet could talk her way out of a conversation and not wanting to be married because it would not fit her lifestyle, made these character's personalities and behaviors seem modern, even though this story takes place the the 13 hundreds.
Although this is not my favorite out of all of Mrs. McCarty's Highland Guard series, I really enjoyed reading it. I can't wait for the next one The Raider.
Plus, the cover is AMAZING as usual.
I pre-order Ms. Mccarty's books as soon as I find out that one is coming out, that's how much I love her novels. I highly recommend her novels to anyone who loves Scottish historical romances. Not only are the stories intriguing, but the characters are bigger than life. Ms. McCarty also provides you with a history lesson at the end of each story, which I find fascinating. It also helps in understanding where her story came from and how the characters are formed.
I only wish her novels were longer! I get wrapped up in the story and don't put her books down until I'm done, except for sleeping and eating of course! LOL I HIGHLY RECOMMEND her books. I also have found that they were less confusing when I read them in order, especially the Highland Guard Series. You can go to the web cite "fantasticfiction.com" and type in Monica McCarty and all her books will come up in order of publishing dates, as well as in their prospective series.
Happy reading!
I thought the plot was good and I liked the characters but for some reason it's not resonating with me like the earlier novels have. Maybe the premise is getting old? Not sure. I mean how many times can you read boy meets girl, boy and girl annoy each other, boy and girl have sex, girl falls in love, boy pushes away, a misunderstanding ensues, boy and girl forgive each other and pledge undying love. What I am loving about these books though is the history and I really love reading the author's notes. I plan to finish the series but am really hoping there's some excitement to these last few.
This is one of my favorite Highlander series I have read. The research and historical accuracy that McCarty works into the narrative is impressive and engaging.
